Developed packaging concepts for the BAQSIMI device, thinking about materiality, and brand resonance as it relates to the user journey. Contributed to journey map which documents the pain points of the PwD (person with diabetes), the caregiver/bystander, and opportunity areas for the solution.
Created visual moodboards as style explorations for digital product, and I developed illustrations to accompany the user journey for the connected care vision.

Henry’s nervous to go to his next endo appointment because he experienced a severe low the week before and had to go to the ER. At the appointment Henry gets a prescription for BAQSIMI.

Henry picks up his prescription and purchases a SmartClip to help people find BAQSIMI in an emergency. He downloads the Connected Care App to manage his SmartClip and discovers it offers ways to incorporate BAQSIMI into his day-to-day diabetes care.

Henry removes the SmartClip from its packaging and attaches it to the sealed BAQSIMI container. He sees that there is a light on the bottom of the device that will activate when the app detects severe hypo emergencies.

Henry adds information about his BASQIMI to his account. Then he pairs the SmartClip and then he sets up a few reminders within the app.

Henry adds personal and medical information to the app. Some of this will help the app detect severe hypos and some of it will be shared with members of Henry’s care team to better prepare them for emergencies.

Henry creates an official care plan from a pre-built care plan template. He assigns trustworthy friends and family specific tasks and invites them to join his care team.

Henry links his CGM and sets up care plans to automatically initiate when his blood sugar falls below a certain threshold for home, work, and lacrosse practice.

Henry’s co-worker Janelle receives an invite to join his care team. She wants to learn more about BAQSIMI and diabetes before agreeing to join the team, so she reviews a training module included in the invite.

Henry goes about life as usual carrying his BAQSIMI with him whenever he leaves the house. To his surprise, he gets a message praising his new habit after he remembers to carry it with him for a full month.

A few months later, Henry heads to work after skipping breakfast one morning. Around lunchtime, his CGM registers a rapid drop in glucose level. Janelle immediately receives an emergency notification. She tells another co-worker to call 911 and then rushes over to Henry.

Janelle hears something buzzing in Henry’s bag. She opens it up and starts looking for BAQSIMI. She sees the SmartClip emitting a vibrant, pulsing light which helps her quickly find BAQSIMI at the bottom of the bag.

After she takes BAQSIMI out of its package, Janelle refers to the app to refresh her memory and ease her nerves. She reviews the steps, takes a breath, and successfully administers BAQSIMI to Henry.

Afterwards, Janelle finishes following the care plan instructions and fills out an incident report as she monitors Henry. When Henry’s glucose levels normalize, she submits the incident report.
